In Minmatar folklore, Cŵn Annwn (pronounced : kuːn ˈænʊn) were the spectral hounds of the Otherworld ("hounds of Annwn.") In some tribes, the Cŵn Annwn also came to be regarded as the escorts of souls on their journey to the Otherworld and are known as Cŵn Mamau ("Hounds of the Mothers.")
Hunting grounds for the Cŵn Annwn are said to include Amarr Prime, where they have been dubbed "The Hounds of Hell" or "Yell Hounds." It is believed "the howling of these huge dogs foretells death to anyone who hears them." According to folklore, their growling is loudest when they are at a distance, and as they draw nearer, it grows softer and softer. Their coming is generally seen as a death portent.
